Three Crusaders Score 14 Points in 81-59 Win Over Converse

BELMONT, N.C. - Three Crusaders scored 14 points as the Crusader women's basketball team rolled past Converse 81-59 this evening.  The victory moved the #11-ranked Crusaders to 22-2 on the season, including 17-1 in Conference Carolinas play.  The Valkyries move to 3-24 on the year, with a 2-16 conference mark.

How it Happened

  • Belmont Abbey took a 15-0 lead to open the game.  The team built a 21-2 lead, and when the quarter expired held a 27-4 advantage.  Allie Downing scored eight points in the period
  • At halftime, BAC led 37-21
  • The Crusader defense came out strong in the third, giving up just one field goal in the first four minutes of the period.  Maria Kuhlman went 3-for-3 from three-point range in the period, and The Abbey led 66-39 heading into the final quarter
  • Sydni Clawges opened up the fourth by scoring the first four points of the period.  On the defensive end, Belmont Abbey did not give up a point in the first 3:23 of the quarter
  • Kelli Thomas scored six points in the quarter, and The Abbey wrapped up the 81-59 victory
  • On the night, Downing, Kuhlman, and Thomas each scored 14 points.  Downing grabbed seven rebounds, while Thomas puled down six
