Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Keyanna Spivey posted a double-double this evening, leading the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team to a 69-57 victory at Mount Olive. The win moves The Abbey to 14-2 this season, including 9-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Mount Olive is now 11-4 overall, and 8-3 in conference play.
How it Happened
- The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team building a lead larger than four. Spivey scored five of the Abbey's 13 points in the period
- The game stayed close early in the second, until The Abbey went on a 10-2 run late in the period to take a 40-26 lead. The Crusaders also held Mount Olive to one field goal during a five-minute stretch late in the quarter, and The Abbey held a 40-29 lead at halftime. As a unit, the Crusaders scored 27 points in the second quarter
- Maria Kuhlman scored 10 points in the period, while Alexis Schulz scored seven
- The two teams traded baskets early in the third, but The Abbey closed out the third with an 8-0 run, capped by an Irelynn Davisson three-pointer to put BAC on top 56-47 heading into the final period
- A 6-0 run by the Crusaders late in the fourth built a 66-55 lead for The Abbey with 1:04 to play
- From there, BAC was able to close out the 69-57 victory
- On the night, Spivey was the Crusader leader with 13 points and 10 rebounds, her third double-double of the year
- Kuhlman finished with 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Brittany Autry added 15 points, while Hannah Roney's four assists tied for the game's high
