Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Sean Halloran topped 20 points for the second time this season, but an 11-0 run deep in the second half lifted Mount Olive to a 91-82 Conference Carolinas victory over Belmont Abbey in men's basketball action Wednesday. The sophomore point guard hit eight of 11 attempts from the field (three-of-five from three-point range) and three of four free throws.
Belmont Abbey falls to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in league play, but remains a half-game ahead of three other teams for first place in the conference standings. Mount Olive improves to 11-7, 5-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Romeao Ferguson scored 17 and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while adding four assists and three steals.
- Ryan Shaffer (12 points) and DeQuan Abrom (11 points) also reached double figures.
- Bosko Bojovic nearly posted a double-double of nine points and seven boards.
- Belmont Abbey hit 49.2 percent from the field overall and held a 34-31 rebounding advantage.
- The Trojans hit 47.3 percent overall, while making 29 of 35 free-throw attempts (82.9 percent).
- The teams were tied at 61-61 with 8:32 remaining when UMO tallied 11 straight points. The surge culminated with a pair of free throws at the 5:16 mark.
- Despite behind held under 20 points for the first time this season, Abrom moved into sixth place on the all-time scoring list. With 1,821 points, he passed the original school record holder, Roger Marcil (1813 from 1953-57).
