Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey field hockey faced the No. 1 team for the first time in program history and battled valiantly, but fell 4-0 to Shippensburg Saturday afternoon. After falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, the Crusaders allowed just one more goal to the three-time defending NCAA Division II national champions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shippensburg scored just three minutes into the contest and led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.
- Angelina Perrone had three of Belmont Abbey's four shots. Laura Harrison had the other.
- Paige Hinds made 11 saves in goal, the fifth-most in school history. She faced 28 total shots.
- Eight of Hinds' saves came during the fourth quarter.
- Shippensburg had the advantage in penalty corners, 13-3.
- The Crusaders fall to 1-1 on the season after a weekend of action of PSAC teams. The contest was the season opener for the Red Raiders.
