Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Keyanna Spivey scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but the Belmont Abbey Women's Basketball team lost a tough 58-53 game to close out its regular season. The Abbey finished the 2018-19 regular season third in Conference Carolinas with a 19-9 record, including a 15-5 Conference Carolinas record. Emmanuel ends its regular season 21-6 overall, and 16-4 in conference play.
How it Happened
- Spivey scored the first Crusader basket of the game. Later in the period, Manuela Fungate made a layup, and Belmont Abbey trailed 22-4 when the period ended
- In the opening minutes of the second, Allie Downing made a layup, as well as the ensuing free throw to narrow the margin to 24-7
- In the last two minutes of the quarter, the Crusaders only gave up one field goal, while they went on a 5-0 run to end the period, and Emmanuel led 33-16 at halftime
- The third quarter was all Abbey. Maria Kuhlman scored five points in the first minute and a half of the period
- The Lions did not a point on the Crusaders until the 3:44 mark of the quarter. Spivey capped off the quarter with a 3-point basket, and Belmont Abbey trailed 40-39 heading into the final quarter. BAC outscored Emmanuel 23-7 in the period
- Brittany Autry made a layup at the start of the fourth to put the Crusaders in front 41-40, its first lead of the contest
- Later in the period, Downing scored four straight Abbey points
- The game turned into a free throw shooting contest at the end of the quarter and the Lions finished off the 58-53 win
- On the day, Spivey was the Crusader leader with 17 points and 10 rebounds
- Kuhlman finished with 14 points and six boards. Downing contributed seven points and nine rebounds
- As a team, Belmont Abbey outrebounded Emmanuel 49-28
