Box Score BELMONT, N.C. - Maria Kuhlman led a quartet of Crusaders who scored in double figures today, as Belmont Abbey defeated Francis Marion 80-63 on REDucation Day. The victory puts The Abbey at 9-1 on the season. FMU is now 4-2.
How it Happened
- The opening quarter was a defensive battle, with The Abbey only giving up two points over the first four and a half minutes. The Abbey led 18-10 when the quarter expired
- The Belmont Abbey defense was also excellent in the second, giving up just three points in the opening six and a half minutes of the period. BAC went on a 15-3 run during that span and led 37-28 at halftime
- The defense by BAC did not let up in the third, giving up just two points in the first six minutes, to take a commanding 53-30 lead. The Crusaders held a 59-39 advantage heading into the final period
- In the fourth, FMU only managed one 3-pointer on the Abbey, which sealed off the 80-63 victory
- On the day, Keyanna Spivey scored 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting, and pulled down five rebounds
- Kuhlman scored 17, while Allie Downing chipped in 11 points and six rebounds
