Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team closed out the Conference Carolinas/SAC Challenge with a 86-39 win over Mars Hill. The Abbey now stands at 1-1, while Mars Hill is now 0-2.
How it Happened
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 7-1 lead midway through the first quarter. THe Crusaders also held the Lions to no field goal in the last five minutes of the quarter, and held a 23-6 lead when the period ended
- The Abbey was also strong in the second, scoring 28 points, including eight from Allie Downing. The Crusaders did not give up a 3-pointer in the period, and led 51-23 at halftime
- Belmont Abbey scored 20 points in the third quarter, shooting 50% from the field
- The fourth quarter was a defensive struggle, as The Abbey held Mars Hill to just two field goals in the period, sealing the 86-39 victory
- On the night, Downing was the Crusaders' leader, with 20 points and three steals. Brittany Autry added 16 points, going 7-7 from the field
- As a unit, Belmont Abbey held Mars Hill to 8-52 from the field, including just one three-point basket
