Abrom Tallies 30 in Overtime Setback

AIKEN, S.C. -- DeQuan Abrom tallied a game-high 30 points and Romeao Ferguson hit a three-pointer with 2.4 seconds remaining to force overtime, but USC-Aiken scored the first 10 points of the extra session for a 90-84 victory over Belmont Abbey in men's basketball action Wednesday night.

After the run, the Crusaders (3-2) answered with eight in a row and had a chance to take the lead, but late free throws preserved the Pacers victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Romeao Ferguson posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, while adding six assists.
  • Sean Halloran chipped in 19 points, six boards and six helpers.
  • Abrom grabbed eight boards with Charles Solomon adding seven.
  • Belmont Abbey shot 42.6 percent for the contest, but 53.6 percent in the second half. However, the overtime percentage was just 18.2 (2 of 11).
  • The Crusaders overcame a double-digit deficit early in the second half, moving from a 45-35 deficit to a 63-62 advantage after a Halloran jumper with 5:45 to play.
  • Belmont Abbey answered an opening three with a 9-0 run for the early lead.
  • The Pacers used a 16-5 run late in the first half en route to a 40-33 lead at the break.

UP NEXT

  • Belmont Abbey travels to sixth-ranked Queens on Saturday.
  • The contest was originally scheduled for the Wheeler Center, but was moved across town when Belmont Abbey earned hosting duties for the Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament.
