Box Score BELMONT, N.C. - Belmont Abbey scored two first-half goals, then added another early in the second en route to a 3-1 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey League victory over Queens Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. Three different Crusaders scored, helping The Abbey to a second-place tie in the league standings with just one game remaining.
Belmont Abbey improves to 5-9 overall, but 5-4 in league play. Queens is now 7-9, 5-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey opened the scoring with exactly seven minutes left in the opening period. Mia Maminski poked in a rebound just four feet off the goal line.
- Just 2:31 later, Katana Cawley doubled the lead from the center of the circle after a pass from Xanthe Rademeyer.
- The lead increased to 3-0 with 8:05 to play on a Sophia Fuege took a cross-goal pass from Angelina Perrone and buried it home.
- Queens broke the shutout at the 66:42 mark, capitalizing on a penalty corner.
- Belmont Abbey held a 14-7 advantage in shots, while the Royals took one more penalty corner (5-4).
- Paige Hinds made four saves in goal for the Crusaders, while Queen's Jet Van den berg tallied nine saves.
