Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – Aaron Madison found the back of the net with 8.3 seconds left to lift the Crusaders over Barton, in front of a large Homecoming crowd. With the victory, The Abbey improves to 6-1 on the season and stays a perfect 3-0 in Conference Carolinas play.
The contest was very evenly matched with physical play from both sides. Barton was able to get on the board first as Pol Monells tapped in a loose ball in front of the net in the 25th minute. The Bulldogs (2-7, 0-4) held the one-goal advantage the rest of the first half until Geinner Duque ripped a goal from the top of the box, into the left corner of the net with 20 seconds remaining. Duque's third goal of the season tied the contest as the half expired.
The second half was a continuation of the physical play and Belmont Abbey's offensive drive. The Crusaders put 22 shots on goal, 15 in the second half. Under a minute left in regulation, Harrison Clark launched a great throw into the box where Nando Morales found Aaron Madison who ripped the game winner.
Abbey keeper, Wes Holifield, recorded four saves in his sixth win of the year. Barton keeper Jens Madsen managed 11 saves on the afternoon.
