Box Score BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey twice rallied from a one-goal deficit, but Bellarmine broke a 2-2 tie with just over 10 minutes remaining to earn a 3-2 victory in ECAC Division II Field Hockey League action Friday at Alumni Field. Kayley Williams and Xanthe Rademeyer each found the cage for the Crusaders.
Shots were nearly even in the contest with the Knights holding an 11-9 edge, while The Abbey posted a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Bellarmine (3-6, 2-3) opened the scoring on a rebound just 2:12 into the contest, and held that lead through intermission. Williams tied the score at 1-1 only 1:19 into the second stanza, when she took a penalty corner out of the air and over the keeper. The Knights answered less than four minutes later, but The Abbey (5-5, 2-3) converted another penalty corner for a 2-2 tie. Rademeyer started the play to Nicole Wong, who gave it back to her five yards out. Rademeyer used her body as a shield and turned around to skirt the ball into goal.
However, the lead lasted only a minute and nine seconds when Megan Carney beat Belmont Abbey keeper Paige Hinds to the left side for the final tally. Hinds finished the day with two saves, while her counterpart, Heather Gregory had four.
