Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey played Queens to a scoreless tie at halftime, but five goals in the second half led the Royals to a 5-0 victory Saturday morning at the Queens Athletic Complex. The loss was the first of the season after an historic four straight wins to start the season.
The Abbey held a 5-3 advantage in shots at intermission, but Queens (1-3) found the net just 3:06 into the second by converting a penalty corner. After the goal was originally disallowed, the officials conferred for several minutes before ruling that there was a deflection and the score stood. Just 1:13 later, the Royals doubled the lead by converting another penalty corner.
The Royals added three more goals over the next 23 minutes for the final margin.
Paige Hinds made five saves, all in the second half, for Belmont Abbey. Demetria Barrow and Nicole Wong took two shots each in the eight shot effort. Five of those were on goal.
Belmont Abbey returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Limestone for an ECAC Division II Field Hockey League matchup.
