BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey Softball battled tough against 21st-ranked Limestone Tuesday but eventually dropped both games of the doubleheader, 4-2 and 3-1.

Limestone (39-7, 15-3) scored three runs in the first inning of the opener and increased the lead to 4-0 with a run in the sixth. The Crusaders (7-24-2, 5-13) cut the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run by Mackenzie Dziendziel. She brought home Melissa Neyhouse who singled in the previous at-bat.

However, the Saints were able to end the inning, then retired the side in the seventh to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Belmont Abbey opened the scoring with a run in the first. Brianna Embler walked to lead off and was sacrificed to second. Peyton Wilson plated a run on a Peyton Wilson single to center.

The lead lasted until the sixth, when a run-scoring single tied the game, then an error allowed another run. Limestone added an insurance run in the seventh.

Belmont Abbey returns to action on Monday at Emmanuel in the make-up game for a rainout earlier in the year.
