Box Score BELMONT, N.C. - Freshman Keyanna Spivey scored 14 points as Belmont Abbey won a 73-66 contest over North Greenville. The win puts The Abbey at 4-3 on the season with a 2-0 conference record. North Greenville is now 0-7, and 0-3 in conference play.
North Greenville led early in the game, but a layup by Alex Busch gave The Abbey its first lead three and a half minutes into the contest. The defensive efforts forced North Greenville in a scoring drought of nearly three minutes near the end of the quarter, and NGU led 17-12 after the first. North Greenville jumped out to a 30-22 lead in the second. Then an 8-0 run by BAC tied the game at 30 with 1:14 left in the half. At halftime, Belmont Abbey led 32-31.
A three-pointer by Irelynn Davisson gave Belmont Abbey a 40-34 advantage. With a minute left in the quarter, Emry Tsitouris sunk two free throws to put The Abbey in front 51-47, which would be the score at the end of the period. Maria Kuhlman nailed a three-pointer and then a jump shot to start the fourth. Freshman Allie Downing hit a jumper to give Belmont Abbey a 57-49 lead. The lead increased to nine when Kuhlman hit two free throws at the 20-second mark before The Abbey sealed the victory 73-66.
Spivey's 14 points were a career high. She also grabbed eight rebounds in the game. Tsitouris scored 11 points and pulled down eight boards. Kuhlman recorded 13 points with nine rebounds. The Abbey went 28-31 from the free throw line.
Belmont Abbey will next welcome Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, December 6 at 6 p.m.
