Norwood Tallies Career-High 19 Kills in Another Five-Setter

BELMONT, N.C. -- Coreen Norwood tallied a career-high 19 kills and Cassidy Bonito established a new career high of 55 assists, but the Crusaders rally fell short in a 3-2 (20-25, 26-24, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11) setback against Coker in non-conference women's volleyball action Tuesday night at the Wheeler Center. The match was the third straight to go the distance for The Abbey.

Mackenzie Chrapliwy tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 18 kills and 10 digs, while Bonito added 14 digs for her 10th double-double.

In the opening set, Belmont Abbey led 9-7 but scored eight of the next 11 points for a 17-10 advantage. The Cobras closed to within 18-16 and 20-18, but the Crusaders fought off the rally by ended the set on a 5-2 run, finishing it off on a Norwood kill.

Coker rallied from down 20-18 to steal the second set. A 3-0 run gave the Cobras the lead, then the teams traded points to a 24-24 tie. A pair of kills evened the match at 1-1.

The teams were tied at 12-12 in the third with Coker used a 4-1 run to move ahead. With the score 19-17, it tallied three straight, but The Abbey answered to trail 22-20. However, the Cobras earned three of the last four points to take the set.

A quick start helped Belmont Abbey pull even. It scored four straight from a 2-2 tie and later led 13-11. An 8-2 surge broke things open, pushing the score t0 21-13 en route 25-18 victory.

In the fifth, Coker opened a 3-1 advantage before the Crusaders tallied three in a row. The Abbye led 6-5 when the Cobras seized control, using four straight to lead 9-6. After BAC closed to within 10-9, a 3-0 CC run created enough space to take the final set.

Belmont Abbey closes out the regular season this weekend with Conference Carolinas matches against Converse and Limestone.
