Crusader Hangs with No. 10 Limestone

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team battled the 10th ranked Limestone Saints but could not come away with the desired result, as the Saints pulled the 1-0 win. With the win, Limestone (11-2-2, 8-0-1) secures the number one seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Belmont Abbey, currently witting as the second seed, is now 8-4-1 and 5-2-1 in conference play.

The Crusaders faced a different style of play, as they have outshot their opponents 234 to 147 this season but held to only six shots by Limestone. The Saints managed 12 shots on the afternoon. The first half saw the Saints hold the ball and take eight total shots to the Crusaders' one. Both of Wes Holifield's saves were recorded in the first frame. The first half ended knotted at zero.

The contest's only goal unfolded in the 48th minute, as a free kick taken by Kristian Moore-Cowel. The free kick was centered in front of the goal where Miguel Anton was able to put a head on it for his first goal of the season.

Belmont Abbey attacked a few times throughout the second half but was not able to capitalize.  Julien Armaroli led the Crusaders' attack with three shots, three other Crusaders also registered attempts.

The Abbey will host Emmanuel Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for their last home regular-season match.
