BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey honored Savanna Gabriele as its first field hockey senior Tuesday, but saw the festivities dampened by a 5-0 setback to ninth-ranked Limestone at Alumni Field. Gabriele, from Brisbane, Australia, has played in 30 games for the Crusaders, who started the sport for the 2016 season.

Limestone (12-2, 8-1) took just 1:24 to break into the scoring column as a shot slowly rolled down the goal line and in. The score remained 1-0 until the 29:36 mark when the Saints converted a penalty stroke, before adding a third tally just 41 seconds before halftime for the 3-0 lead. Shots were 10-0 in favor of the visitors in the period with Paige Hinds making two saves.

The Saints added a pair of goals in the second half for the final margin. Belmont Abbey (7-7, 2-5) was outshot 23-1 in the contest with Kayley Williams earning the only attempt in the final two minutes. Hinds finished the contest with five saves in goal.

The Crusaders finish the regular season with four straight road games, beginning Thursday at Mercy in a key ECAC Division II Field Hockey League matchup.
