BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team went the distance with the Erskine Flying Fleet to end in a 1-1 draw. The tie is the Crusader's first of the season (8-2-1, 5-1-1) but the second of its kind for Erskine (4-7-2, 2-3-2). Joshua Irons scored the lone goal for The Abbey in the 32nd minute, on an afternoon that the club celebrated their four seniors.

Belmont Abbey continued their aggressive offensive play firing six shots in the first half. The Crusader goal developed in the 32nd minute off a free kick from Juan Villa. Patrick Kibler headed the free kick left of the frame and Irons was able to head it into the back of the net. The goal was Iron's third of the season. Belmont Abbey took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Erskine struck back early in the second half when Daniel Jonna sent a deep cross into the box that drew out the Abbey keeper, Wes Holifield. Tim Boeckstaens was able to get his head on it before Holifield, for his fifth goal of the year.

The contest would remain tied, with both teams receiving opportunities throughout both overtime periods. The Crusaders edged out the Flying Fleet in both shots (19-9) and Corner kicks (12-3). Holifield ended with a save and Erskine keeper, Mikael Varin recorded six.

Before the game head coach John Keating recognized the four senior members of the team Jonathan Strilka, and Scott Christman, Villa, and Kibler.

The Crusaders will travel to Columbia International, Wednesday, for a contest at 7 PM.
