Box Score

WILSON, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey's Ben Ferguson canned eight 3-pointers enroute to 26 points, both career highs, but a late rally fell short in a 90-82 setback at Barton in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Ferguson was 9 of 19 overall from the field including 17 shots from behind the arc, while also grabbing five rebounds. Four other Crusaders reached double figures with Gunnar Hardarson and Deion Lane tallying 12 each and Drexler Clark adding 11. Jacob Wilson earned his first career double-double -- and just missed a triple-double -- with 10 points, 10 assists and eight boards.

Belmont Abbey (8-9, 4-5) was outshot 54.5 to 36.4 percent in the opening half, falling behind 48-34 at the break. Barton (13-4, 8-1) led by as many as 20 in the second period, the last at 71-51, but the Crusaders did not quit. An 8-0 run closed the gap to 71-59 with 6:25 left, then threes by Wilson and Ferguson made the score 82-74 with 1:11 to play.

The Bulldogs made six of nine free throws from there to preserve the victory.

Belmont Abbey returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Limestone.
