BELMONT, NC – The Belmont Abbey men's tennis program split the days matches with a win over Emmanuel College, 8-1 and a loss against Pfeiffer University, 3-7. The matches move the Crusaders to 7-19 overall and 3-7 in Conference Carolinas play. The loss moves Emmanuel to 2-19 overall and 0-10 in the conference while Pfeiffer improves to 11-6-1 and 8-0-1 in conference.
In match one against Emmanuel the crusaders jumped to an early lead with wins in flight 1 and flight 3 with doubles. Juan Baez and James Delaney would dominate Braden Anglin and David Forehand 8-2. Similarly, Young-Jin Kang and Eduardo Escobar would defeat Enrique Alcacer and Lucas Vellozo 8-2.
The crusaders would not let up as they continued their rally through singles. Baez, Delaney, Grant Goldin, Kang, and Laine Harrett would finish their matches in two sets each while Escobar would finish 8-1.
In match two against Pfeiffer the story would change as Pfeiffer took the early lead winning in flights 2 and 3. Baez and Delaney would fight a long battle in an 8-7 (5) win over Axel Woerner and Nils Hoffacker.
In singles, Delaney and Nikhil Reddy would be the lone victors. Delaney would take the first set 6-4 against Oscar Von Koch. He would drop the second set 1-6 before defeating Von Koch 6-4 in set three. Reddy would handle his match 8-2 over Jimmy Molina, respectfully.
