BELMONT, NC – Belmont Abbey Men's Tennis defeated Lees-McRae this afternoon 8-1. Lees-McRae falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in conference. The Crusaders improve to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Crusaders started by taking the doubles by storm with a strong 3-0 lead. James Delaney and Juan Baez fought a hard 8-6 victory over Joao Araujo and Gabriel Munez. Young-Jin Kang and Grant Goldin went back and forth to earn a 9-7 win over Garrett Lakey and Sebastian Zuhr. Laine Harrett and Nikhil Reddy would take an 8-3 win over Cole Fields and Tom Deeley.
In singles action the Crusaders would take five of the six matches with wins from Baez, Delaney, Goldin, Kang and Harrett. Goldin would have a comeback victory after dropping the first set 3-6. Goldin would eventually defeat Lakey 6-1 and 6-0 to finalize his win.
The Crusaders will be back in action this weekend as they face Brevard and Armstrong State in Hilton Head, SC for a tournament hosted by Armstrong.
