WILSON, NC- Barton claimed four of six victories in singles matches, as the Bulldogs defeated Belmont Abbey, 6-3, Saturday at the Barton Tennis Complex in Wilson, NC. The Crusaders are now 2-6 overall, 0-3 in Conference Carolinas, while Barton improves to 5-4 overall, 3-0 in league play.
The Crusaders opened up the match, claiming one match in doubles competition. In flight #2, Grant Goldin/Young-Jin Kang, claimed a hard-fought, 8-5 victory over Jake McCartney and Yaxi Pintado.
The Abbey recorded singles' victories at the #1 and #2 flights. Both Baez and Kang capped off a perfect 2-0 day with victories. Baez defeated Jake McCartney in three sets, 1-6, 6-1. 6-3, while Kang defeated Jesus Gil in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.
Baez finished the Mount Olive-Barton weekend trip with a perfect 4-0 overall record in matches.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, March 1 for a Carolinas Conference match against Lees- McRae. First serve is at 2:00PM from the Michael Reidy Tennis Center.
