MOUNT OLIVE, NC- Mount Olive claimed claimed four of six victories in singles matches, as the 40th-ranked Trojans defeated Belmont Abbey, 6-3, Friday at the Walker Tennis Center in Mount Olive, NC. The Crusaders are now 2-5 overall, 0-2 in Conference Carolinas, while Mount Olive improves to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in league play.
The Crusaders opened up the match, claiming one match in doubles competition. In flight #1, James Delaney and Juan Baez, claimed a hard-fought, 8-6 victory over Ogulcan Deniz and Sherzod Akramov.
The Abbey recorded singles' victories at the #1 and #2 flights. Both Baez and Delaney capped off perfect 2-0 days with straight set victories. Baez defeated Ogulcan Deniz, 6-1, 6-4, while Delaney defeated Jose Luis Cortijos, 6-4, 6-1.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday for a Carolinas Conference match at Barton. First serve is at 1:00 PM from Wilson, NC.
