LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey wrestling team defeated St. Andrews 26-20 in their first dual match this season. The Crusaders won six of the 10 matches to start the season 1-0.
Nicholas Lukanich got the ball rolling for the Abbey in the 133 weight class, recording a major decision, defeating Dylan Rossetti 10-2. Jonathan Charpenter followed suit with a 7-5 decision over Tyran Taylor-Owens in the 141 class. Santonio Thompson continued the Crusader run beating Jacob Honeycutt in the 149 division, by technical fall, 20-4.
Greg Hilliard pinned Noah Walker in the 157 weight class and Jake Glunt made it five straight wins for the Abbey, topping Michael Nelson by technical fall, 15-0, in the 165 class.
Luke Glunt defeated Argie Burnette 3-2 in the 184 weight class.
The Crusaders next match will be at Appalachian State, Saturday. The match will begin at 12:00 p.m.
