Box Score 2 The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team posted a pair of easy 3-0 victories this afternoon, scoring wins over Pfeiffer (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) and Columbus State (25-20, 25-16, 25-16) at Merner Gym on Pfeiffer's campus this afternoon. Belmont Abbey winners of five of its last six, improve to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey travels to Erskine Tuesday night and returns home Friday night at 7:00 when hosting Barton on Homecoming weekend.
In the first match of the day, against Pfeiffer, the Crusaders hit .256 and held the Falcons to a .011 attack as they kept the Falcons offense at bay. Belmont Abbey finished with 36 kills and 14 errors on 86 attacks.
Hannah Schellenberg, the reigning National Player of the Week, smacked down 17 kills as she hit a blistering .364 for the match. She only had five errors on 33 attacks. She was the only player to reach double figures.
Gabby Martinez handed out 27 assists and recorded a service ace, with Leah Gunter, Sarah Kenney and Tabitha Sims all adding one each.
Defensively, the Crusaders outdug the Falcons 46-32 as Aimee Cloninger's 13 led all players. Kenney added 12.
At the net, Coreen Norwood posted three block assists and a solo, with Emily Rose and Hannah Schellenberg both adding a block assist.
In the final match of the day, three Crusaders reached double figures in kills as the Abbey easily dismissed the Cougars in three sets.
Cloninger led all players with 12 kills, Caitlin Hankins added 11 and Schellenberg posted ten to lead an offense that hit .274. Hankins hit .579 as she smacked down 11 kills on 19 attacks with zero errors. Cloninger finished with a .320 attack, posting 12 kills on 25 attacks with four errors.
Martinez handed out 38 assists and recorded two service aces. Schellenberg totaled three service aces with Gunter and Cloninger adding one each.
The defense finished with 45 digs as Kenney and Cloninger each finished with ten. Schellenberg added eight with Martinez and Gunter totaling seven.
Norwood totaled two block assists with Hankins, Schellenberg, Cloninger and Lydia Sale all adding one.
