Box Score Belmont Abbey forward Cierra Skyers scored two goals and Laura Shelton added the other and the Crusaders held Mount Olive to just five shots en route to posting their third straight clean sheet in a 3-0 away victory this afternoon at Amon Field. Belmont Abbey improves to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Trojans drop to 3-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
Skyers posted her second-straight two goal match, as all four of her goals have come in the last two matches.
The Crusaders outshot Mount Olive 19-5 and held a dominating 11-3 edge in corner kicks, while committing just three fouls. The hosts were whistled 13 times.
Belmont Abbey scored the only goal it would need in the 22nd minute as Cierra Skyers pounded home a rebound off of a Tallee Zamiela shot that was saved.
Four minutes later, Laura Shelton netted her first goal of the year, as the senior co-captain headed home a cross from Cassidy Coutinho to the far post.
The Crusaders maintained its comfortable 2-0 lead until Skyers punctuated the clean sheet in the 82nd minute taking a pass from Brooke Hedgspeth, fighting off a couple of defenders and tucking a shot inside the far left post for her second goal of the match and her fourth of the year.
Megan Bowen posted the shutout, making just three saves as her goal was never seriously threatened.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Tuesday at Armstrong State. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
