The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team was narrowly edged at King this afternoon by a 6-3 score as the two teams battled through four three set singles matches, with each team winning two of those.
The Tornado claimed a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion as the Crusaders lone win came at number two as James Delaney and Nikhil Reddy Amaresh scored an easy 8-0 decision.
Five of the six singles matches were battles, as four went to three sets and another extended to a second set tiebreaker.
At the top flight, Conner McMann rallied back from an 0-1 hole to post a gritty three set win by scores of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Juan Baez lost in straight sets, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).
The next three matches all went the distance. At number three, Delaney grabbed the first set 6-2, but fell 6-1, 6-2. In the four spot, Reddy Amaresh, just like McMann, rallied back from an 0-1 deficit to post the victory. He won by scores of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The fifth match was another tight one. Gabriel Trombini dropped the opening set 6-4 but stayed alive with a 6-3 win in the second, setting up a ten point tiebreaker in the third, which he lost 10-4.
At the six spot, Will Bezy lost 6-0, 6-3.
Belmont Abbey is back in action April 8 when hosting Barton.
