Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to the visiting Limestone Saints this evening inside the Wheeler Center on the final home weekend of the 2015 season. Limestone bolted out to a 2-0 lead before the Crusaders rallied with a third set victory, but the Saints closed out the match with a five point win in the the fourth set. Scores were 25-22, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-20. Limestone improves to 16-6 overall and 10-5 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 14-13 overall and 8-7 in league play.
Tomorrow wraps up the regular season as Limestone travels to Pfeiffer for a 2:00 p.m. matchup, while the Crusaders host Converse at 1:00 p.m. and Winston-Salem State at 7:00 p.m. Seniors Hannah Schellenberg and Caitlin Hankins will be honored before the final match of the night, at approximately 6:50.
Belmont Abbey hit .146 for the match as Schellenberg led the way with 16 kills. Hankins and Aimee Cloninger both added eight. Gabby Martinez handed out 36 assists with Schellenberg and Cloninger adding two each.
The Crusaders added seven points at the service line as libero Sarah Kenney totaled three aces with Schellenberg adding a pair. Keely Denkman finished with one.
Defensively, Kenney's 18 digs led the way, with Schellenberg adding 16. Martinez and Leah Gunter both registered seven. Hankins and Coreen Norwood both finished with two solo blocks. Dani Fortunato had one block solo and one block assist.
