The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team upped its winning streak to 13 and advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Final for a record eleventh consecutive year as the Crusaders posted a 2-0 clean sheet victory over Converse this afternoon at Alumni Field.

Belmont Abbey, the top seed, advances to face the second seeded Limestone Saints Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from Alumni Field as the Crusaders improve to 16-2-1. Converse, the fifth seed, ends its season with a mark of 12-7-1.

The Crusaders received a huge break early as the Valkyries nearly went ahead 1-0 just 51 seconds into the match, as striker Alex Marquez got behind the Crusaders defense and was left one on one with goalkeeper Megan Bowen, but her shot centered off of the left post and bounced away.

Belmont Abbey capitalized on the break 1:09 later, as defender Amanda Steiner ran down a pass on the right sideline and sailed a cross to senior Meghan Philp, whose one timer to the far left post beat Josee Waitrovich for her team leading fourteenth goal of the season.

The lead stayed at 1-0 through the half, in which the Crusaders outshot Converse 6-3.

1:46 into the second half the Crusaders struck again, as Jillian Lang doubled the lead courtesy of Laura Shelton's league leading thirteenth assist of the year, heading a corner kick over to Lang, who sped ahead and fired home the easy shot past new goalkeeper Savannah Humphries for her fifth goal of the year.

Belmont Abbey outshot Converse 19-10 and attemped nine corner kicks to a pair for Converse.

Bowen ran her record to 12-0-0 as she posted her fifth shutout of the season. Belmont Abbey has now posted 13 clean sheets on the year.
