Limestone Scores Twice In Final Four Minutes To Defeat Men's Soccer, 2-0 In Conference Quarterfinal

The Limestone men's soccer team scored twice in the final four minutes after 86 minutes of scoreless play to defeat Belmont Abbey 2-0 this evening in the Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinal round. Limestone, the second seed, advances to Friday's semifinal with a record of 14-3, while the Crusaders,the seventh seed, end their season with a mark of 3-11-3.

Playing for the second time in three days-the two teams met at Alumni Field in Belmont this past Saturday in the regular season finale-the match was scoreless for 86 minutes as Crusaders goalkeeper Luke Whelan turned away ten shots before the Saints finally broke through in the 87th minute as Jorge Salvat scored off of a Harry Cooksley cross to break the stalemate.

Two minutes later, Cooksley made it 2-0 as he finished a Sebastian Gregersen pass into the box and beat Whelan to the right corner for the goal.

Limestone outshot the Crusaders 25-3 and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Both teams were whistled for nine fouls.
