Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored two goals in each half as the Crusaders upped their winning streak to ten with a convincing 4-0 away victory at North Greenville this evening. Belmont Abbey moves to 13-2-1 overall and 10-0-0 in Conference Carolinas, while North Greenville drops to 8-7-0 overall and 4-6-0 in the league.
Belmont Abbey has now posted eight shutouts in ten conference matches and has outscored those ten opponents 42-2.
The win sets up a Conference Carolinas regular season championship match Saturday at 1:00, as the Crusaders welcome Limestone, also 10-0-0 in the league, to Alumni Field to decide the number one overall seed in next week's Conference Carolinas Tournament.
Goalkeeper Megan Bowen moved her record to 10-1-0 as she posted her fourth shutout of the season. She made two saves.
Belmont Abbey dominated the hosts from start to finish, outshooting North Greenville 27-3 and holding a 13-3 win in corner kicks.
Senior Cassidy Coutinho gave Belmont Abbey the only goal it would need in the eighth minute, volleying home Kate Hennesy's shot that bounced off the crossbar.
Four minutes later, Hennessy scored, as her first shot was saved but she pounded home the rebound to double the Abbey's lead to 2-0 at the half.
Two more goals came in the second half in a space of five minutes. In the 62nd minute, Cierra Skyers bagged her 12th goal of the year, tying her for the team lead.
Five minutes later, Jillian Lang scored for the fifth time, finding the back of the net off of a Megan Nanney pass to for the Crusaders fourth and final goal of the match.
