Philp Scores In Third Straight Game But Women's Soccer Falls At King, 3-1

Belmont Abbey junior forward Meghan Philp scored for the third-straight game, netting the equalizer just 16 seconds after King took the early 1-0 lead, but the Tornado scored two unanswered goals in the second half to claim a 3-1 Conference Carolinas victory this afternooon at Parks Field. King improves to 5-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league play, while the Crusaders drop to 2-5-2 overall and 1-2-0 in Conference Carolinas.

Philp scored her team leading sixth goal of the year as she has netted fourth in the last three matches.

16 seconds after Rachel Thorpe gave the Tornado a 1-0 edge, the junior from Houma, Louisiana beat Olivia Drake off of a Theresa Mateo cross at the 20:50 mark.

The match remained knotted at one until the 65th minute when Hulda Sigurdardottir put King ahead for good with a header off of a free kick.

Just over two minutes later, Miranda Smith added an insurance goal, her seventh of the season, to give King a two goal advantage.

King outshot the Abbey 21-9 and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Hannah Kohls made five saves in the net.
