Box Score Trailing 4-1 in the second half, the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored two goals in a six minute span-the last 11 minutes to go-to cut the deficit to one, but the Saints held on for a wild 4-3 win this evening in Gaffney. Limestone improves to 2-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in league play, while the Abbey slips to 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Conference Carolinas.
Down 2-0 at the half-with the first goal scored on a penalty kick-Limestone quickly made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute before Cierra Skyers scored the first of her two goals six minutes later to put the Crusaders on the board.
Just over two minutes later, the Saints answered with what turned out to be the winning goal as Gabriela Reid netted her third goal of the season.
Belmont Abbey did not go away, as Skyers struck again 13 minutes later, tapping in a Meghan Philp cross to make the score 4-2.
Philp's turn came six minutes later, as she smacked in her own rebound inside the left post to get the Abbey to within one at 4-3 with 11:20 to play.
From there, the Abbey had the final two shots of the game, as Sarah Silapaxay's effort sailed high in the 83rd minute. Lastly, Skyers's attempt went wide left with 2:19 to go.
Belmont Abbey outshot Limestone 12-11. The Saints won the corner kick battle 7-6.
