Box Score Belmont Abbey junior forward Meghan Philp netted the only goal of the match in the 22nd minute as the fourth-seeded Crusaders women's soccer team upset the top-seeded Converse College Valkyries 1-0 in Spartanburg this evening in the semifinal round of the 2014 Conference Carolinas Tournament.
The Crusaders advance to the tournament Final for the tenth-straight year as they improve to 11-6-2, while Converse ends its season with a mark of 15-3-1.
Belmont Abbey will face the winner of the Pfeiffer/Lees-McRae match Sunday afternoon at 4:00 in Spartanburg.
Philp, who has scored all of the Crusaders goals in this year's tournament, gave the Crusaders the only goal they would need in the 22nd minute, as she headed home a Cassidy Coutinho corner kick near post for her team-leading 13th goal of the year.
The defense made the lead stand up, as senior goalkeeper Hannah Kohls made seven saves as she posted her ninth shutout of the season.
Converse outshot the Abbey 12-6 but the Crusaders won the corner kick battle 5-3.
