Box Score Belmont Abbey sophomore forward Cierra Skyers scored her fifth goal of the year in the 88th minute as the Crusaders women's soccer team earned a crucial 1-0 away result at Barton this evening. Belmont Abbey, winners of two-straight-both by shutout-improve to 4-5-2 overall and 3-2-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Bulldogs drop to 5-3-1 overall and 2-3-0 in league play.
Senior goalkeeper Hannah Kohls posted her fourth shutout of the year as she stopped three shots, the final one coming with 2:03 to play as Skyers lifted the Abbey late.
The Oshawa, Ontario product scored off of a lead pass from Meghan Philp that rolled into the box, where her low shot sailed past Kelsey Rothwell for her second marker in as many games and her fifth of the season. Her goal came with 2:59 left in the match.
Belmont Abbey clung to the lead late as it had one nervous moment as Barton's Kathryn Smith rocketed a shot off the crossbar 20 seconds after Skyers gave the Abbey the lead.
The Crusaders outshot Barton 11-9 and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
