Philp's Goal With 1:08 Left Lifts Women's Soccer Past Catawba, 1-0 In Season Opener

Belmont Abbey sophomore forward Meghan Philp scored the only goal of the match with 1:08 left to give the Crusaders women's soccer team a 1-0 season-opening victory at Catawba this evening. Philp's goal is her first of the year and the ninth of her career that has spanned 24 matches.

The Crusaders outshot Catawba 10-4, including 7-2 in the second half, but they could not find the back of the net until late in the 89th minute when Ananda Gebreysus headed the ball forward to Philp, who broke free behind the Indians defense and beat Angelica Pawlowski for the goal.

Hannah Kohls stopped three shots in the net.

The Crusaders are now unbeaten in five of is last six matches and are back in action Tuesday when going on the road to face Tusculum.
