The regionally-top ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates scored both of its goals in the first three minutes of the second half to earn a 2-0 win over the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team this afternoon. Armstrong gains its first win of the year as it improves to 1-0-2, while Belmont Abbey suffers its first loss as the record is now 2-1-0.

After a scoreless first half in which the Pirates outshot the Crusaders 9-1, Armstrong broke through in the 47th minute as Candace Cosby headed home Brianne Matarazzo's corner kick to the far post for the goal.

2:32 later, the Pirates struck again, as Stephanie James served a through ball to Andye Dawson, who flicked the ball over the head of goalkeeer Abby Walton to extend the lead.

The Crusaders attempted five shots in the second half to finish with six for the afternoon. Walton made a pair of saves, one in each half.
