The Belmont Abbey softball team gained a doubleheader split at Erskine this afternoon, dropping the opener 9-0 in five innings, but rallied to win game two, 7-2, to snap a 15-game losing streak. Erskine is now 11-15-2 overall and 7-4-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey improves to 9-29 overall and 2-14 in league play.

In the opener, the Fleet wasted no time taking control of the game, scoring all nine runs on nine hits in the first two innings, starting with six in the first. They added three more in the second to put the game away. Neither team scored again, and the game was stopped after five innings.

Belmont Abbey totaled four hits as Amber Faust had two, ripping a pair of singles. Nikki Faust and Brooke Baliles had the other two.

Kelsey Spurrier picked up the win as she allowed three hits over four scoreless innings, fanning two. She did not issue a walk. Catelyn Pressley gave up six runs, three earned, on five hits in an inning of work. She walked two and struck out one.

The Crusaders broke the hex in game two as they won for the first time since March 19, snapping a 15-game losing streak.

Just like Erskine did in the first game, the Crusaders bolted ahead early, plating four runs in the first and three more in the second to mark all of their runs for the game.

In the first, the first three Crusaders reached base and Amber Faust brought home the first run as she was hit by a pitch. Hannah Bright then scored on a passed ball, which was followed by an RBI groundout from Kaitlyn Jones, chasing home Nikki Faust. Shannon Arthur added a sacrifice fly to center, deep enough to score Amber Faust to increase the lead to 4-0.

After Samantha Jacobs retired the side in order in the bottom of the frame, the Abbey tacked on three more in the top of the second as the Crusaders again loaded the bases. Nikki Faust's groundout to short scored Pressley to widen the gap to 5-0. Amber Faust continued the string with another big hit, ripping a double that scored Bright and Carol-Anne Sherrill to move the Abbey way ahead, 7-0.

Erskine scored its runs in the bottom of the third on a two RBI double from Larissa Shannon.

Jacobs picked up the win as she fanned eight, giving her 107 strikeouts for the season. She allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits. Kaylin White took the loss after yielding seven runs, four earned, on four hits in an inning and two-thirds. She did not walk or strikeout a batter.

Amber Faust finished 1-3 with three RBI, while Sherrill collected three hits in three at bats with two runs scored. Arthur, Jones and Nikki Faust all had one RBI.
