Softball Drops Both Games At North Greenville, 6-0 & 8-2

The Belmont Abbey softball team was swept at North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader this afternoon, dropping the opener 6-0 and suffering an 8-2 loss in the nightcap. North Greenville improves to 10-14 overall and 6-6 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 8-20 overall and 1-7 in Conference Carolinas.

In the opener, freshman pitcher Samantha Jacobs fanned seven, but North Greenville touched her for three runs in the first, third and sixth innings.

In the first, Sarah Armstrong led off with a walk and scored on a double by Kimberly Robertson. Robertson then scored on a throwing error when Rachel Glazebrook reached on a fielder's choice to up the lead to 2-0.

Two innings later, Robertson worked a leadoff walk, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a single by Tori Freedman, and both runners scored on a double by Cassi Carpenter.

North Greenville closed the scoring in the sixth as Glazebrook smashed a two-run homer to left center, scoring Armstrong, who walked earlier.

Glazebrook took the win in the circle as she went the distance, striking out 15 and scattering four hits in the complete-game shutout. She also drove in two runs.

Nikki Faust led the Abbey with two hits, while Kinsey McClure and Hannah Bright both had one.

In game two North Greenville scored the first six runs of the game, as it plated two in the second, third and fourth innings before the Abbey pushed two across in the sixth. Kaitlyn Jones scored on a fielding error, and an Emily Self double plated Amber Faust, after she singled earlier.

North Greenville answered right back with two in the sixth on a two RBI double by Freedman.

Armstrong picked up the win in the circle for North Greenville, as she allowed two unearned runs over seven innings, scattering six hits. She walked two and fanned one. Catelyn Pressley took the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits in three innings. She struck out one and fanned one.

Jones led the Abbey with two hits as the Crusaders totaled six.
