Belmont Abbey junior Tom Wigley and sophomore Tim Tanko both posted three set wins in their singles matches but the Crusaders men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss to the visiting Newberry Wolves this afternoon in the season opener at Sacred Heart Courts.

Wigley, playing at number two singles, lost the first set tiebreaker 7-1, but rallied to win the next two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to post the victory. Tanko, the Abbey's number six player, won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second set 7-5 to force a third set ten point tiebreaker, which he won 10-7.

Belmont Abbey is back in action Thursday when hosting Wingate at 2:30.
