Box Score

Belmont Abbey senior forward Ananda Gebreyesus was involved in both Crusader goals, as she scored in the 12th minute and assisted Meghan Philip's game winner in the 52nd minute as the women's soccer team gained a key 2-1 win at Mount Olive this evening. The win improves the Abbey's record to 8-2-1 overall and a Conference Carolinas best 4-0-1, while Mount Olive drops to 2-8-1 overall and 0-5-0 in Conference Carolinas.

The goals from Gebreyesus and Philp give both players five for the season, as Gebreysus put the Crusaders ahead 1-0 at the 11:57 mark as she got behind the Trojans defense and scored in the open net.

Mount Olive became level 18 minutes later on a corner kick. The kick sailed into the Abbey box, and after a flurry, Ellie Barnes netted a shot from ten yards out to even the score at one.

The Crusaders outshot Mount Olive 8-4 in the first half as Trojans goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy stopped four Abbey shots.

The match remained deadlocked until the 52nd minute when Philp scored for the fifth time this year, and her third game winner. Gebreyesus dribbled down from the midfield and sent a cross to the box, where Philp beat McCoy at the 51:32 mark to give the Abbey the win.

Belmont Abbey outshot Mount Olive 13-7 and attempted six corner kicks to just two for the Trojans. McCoy finished with six saves, while Hannah Kohls stopped three shots.
