Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team fell at UNC Pembroke by a
4-1 score this afternoon. The Abbey drops to 0-3, while UNC
Pembroke improves to 2-0. After playing its first three matches on
the road, the Crusaders open the home schedule Saturday afternoon
at 1:00 against Newberry from Alumni Field.
UNC Pembroke outshot the Abbey 27-11 but the Crusaders struck
first in the 33rd minute. Melissa Pereira sent a free kick from 35
yards out to the center of the box, where Cassidy Coutinho headed
home the winner for her second goal in as many matches.
The Abbey held the lead for 4:06 until the Lady Braves scored
the first of four unanswered strikes, as Julia Nytorp scored off of
a pass from Ashley Anctil to knot the match at one.
The contest remained deadlocked through the end of the first
half, but then the Lady Braves scored again to claim a lead they
would never relinquish. In the 51st minute, Amalia Arvidsson scored
near post after taking a pass from Nytorp, and 14 minutes later
Andrea Collen extended the Lady Braves lead to 3-1 with a shot from
the center of the box.
Alisia Gustafson closed the scoring in the 79th minute with an
unassisted tally.
