Box Score

The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team fell at UNC Pembroke by a 4-1 score this afternoon. The Abbey drops to 0-3, while UNC Pembroke improves to 2-0. After playing its first three matches on the road, the Crusaders open the home schedule Saturday afternoon at 1:00 against Newberry from Alumni Field.

UNC Pembroke outshot the Abbey 27-11 but the Crusaders struck first in the 33rd minute. Melissa Pereira sent a free kick from 35 yards out to the center of the box, where Cassidy Coutinho headed home the winner for her second goal in as many matches.

The Abbey held the lead for 4:06 until the Lady Braves scored the first of four unanswered strikes, as Julia Nytorp scored off of a pass from Ashley Anctil to knot the match at one.

The contest remained deadlocked through the end of the first half, but then the Lady Braves scored again to claim a lead they would never relinquish. In the 51st minute, Amalia Arvidsson scored near post after taking a pass from Nytorp, and 14 minutes later Andrea Collen extended the Lady Braves lead to 3-1 with a shot from the center of the box.

Alisia Gustafson closed the scoring in the 79th minute with an unassisted tally.
