In a battle of Conference Carolinas Division leaders, the
Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team moved to the top spot in the
conference by percentage points with a 3-0 sweep over the visiting
King Tornado this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. Set scores were
25-14, 25-14 and 25-15. The Abbey, winners of five straight and
eight of its last nine, move to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Tornado drop to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in the
league.
For the second-straight match, Belmont Abbey freshman Hannah
Schellenberg posted a double double with 14 kills and 13 digs. She
was the only player to reach double figures in kills as she hit
.500 for the match (14 kills, one error on 26 total attacks).
Freshman Caitlin Hankins added nine kills while Angela Jubb and
Lydia Schellenberg totaled nine and seven, respectively. Kay
Schellenberg handed out 36 assists and posted seven digs. Lydia
Schellenberg added nine digs as the Crusaders recorded 46 on the
afternoon to just 38 for King. Hankins added two block solos and a
block assist. The Crusaders offense hit .333 for the match.
King hit .072 as Summer Kremer led the Tornado with eight kills.
Lauren Willoughby added seven.
