Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team lost at USC-Aiken by a 3-1
score this evening. The loss drops the Abbey's record to 3-3-0,
while the Pacers improve to 2-1-2.
Belmont Abbey had more scoring chances early, holding the early
shot advantage in the first ten minutes, but it was the Pacers that
struck first at the 14:59 mark. Dean Smith served a corner kick to
the center of the box, where Mark Hanlon's header beat Jordan Junot
for his first goal of the year.
The Crusaders did not wait long before knotting the match at
one, as Jose Penaloza's shot was swatted away by goalkeeper Brandon
Jarosz, but Tarik Amon was there to stuff in the rebound for his
first career goal.
USC-Aiken struck back immediately to regain its lead, as Carson
Villa scored 12 minutes after Amon's strike to give the Pacers a
lead they would never lose. The Pacers added an insurance goal in
the 68th minute to extend their advantage to 3-1, which was the
final.
The Pacers outshot the Abbey 16-11 but the Crusaders held the
advantage at 10-7 in the first half. Belmont Abbey did win the
corner kick battle by a 6-4 edge. Junot made seven saves in the
net.
