Box Score Belmont Abbey freshman forward Meghan Philp scored twice, and
Silvia Vazquez added the other as the Crusaders women's soccer team
went on the road and earned a 3-0 win at Limestone this afternoon.
The Crusaders extend their winning streak to three as they improve
to 3-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Conference Carolinas, while Limestone
falls to 3-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders controlled the entire match, outshooting Limestone
21-6, including 9-4 in the first half as the Abbey seized control
of the game shortly before intermission. Philp put the Abbey ahead
1-0 at the 34:31 mark, knocking home a rebound off of a deflected
shot for her second goal of the year.
Six minutes later, Vazquez made it 2-0, as her 30 yard blast
beat Tori Waddell for her first goal of the year, to close the
scoring for the first half.
Philp struck again in the 61st minute, as she raced down the
middle of the field and launched a shot from 20 yards to extend the
advantage to 3-0, which was the final. Philp and fellow freshman
Cassidy Coutinho have combined to score seven of the Abbey's nine
goals this season.
Both teams attempted four corner kicks and the Abbey was
whistled for nine fouls to just five for Limestone. Waddell made 11
saves in the net, while Hannah Kohls stopped three shots.
