Belmont Abbey freshman Hannah Schellenberg led a torrid offense
with a match-high 14 kills as the Crusaders women's volleyball team
opened Conference Carolinas play with a 3-0 victory over the
visiting Pfeiffer University Falcons before a raucous crowd of 475
tonight at the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-17, 25-13 and
25-11. The triumph moves the Abbey's ledger to 9-2 overall and 1-0
in Conference Carolinas play, while Pfeiffer drops to 1-7 overall
and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas. All eleven of the Abbey's matches
have been decided by 3-0 scores.
Schellenberg ripped a .500 attack as she posted a double double
with 14 kills and 13 digs. Her 14 kills came on 22 attacks with
three errors. She also had three service aces. Lydia Schellenberg
posted eight kills and nine digs, while Angela Jubb added seven
kills, seven digs and three block assists. Kay Schellenberg handed
out 37 assists and also recorded two digs, a block solo and a block
assist. The Abbey logged a team attack of .293 (42 kills, 15 errors
on 92 total attacks) and held Pfeiffer to a -.011 attack (18 kills,
19 errors on 88 total attacks). Pfeiffer was led by Milana
Mervosh's seven kills, while Jessica Homrich added four.
The Abbey's nine wins are the fastest to start a season in
school history, and will go for its tenth win Saturday afternoon at
2:00 when hosting Queens.
