Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team scored three times in the
second half as the Crusaders moved their record to 3-1 and 1-0 in
Conference Carolinas with a 3-1 win at Barton this evening. The
Bulldogs drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas.
After a scoreless first half in which the Crusaders outshot
Barton 9-3, Conor Wells gave the Abbey the lead in the 57th minute
as Ty Haddock's corner kick sailed to the head of Conor Wells,
whose headed redirection just tucked inside the far post for the
1-0 Abbey lead.
Three minutes later the edge grew to 2-0 when Timmi Borges Da
Silva's pass from the goal line found a streaking Breck Collins,
who buried the winner for his first career goal.
17 minutes later, senior Zack Wertis made it 3-0 when Eric Amaya
and Tarik Amon were credited with assists on Wertis's chip shot
that sailed underneath the crossbar for his first goal of the
year.
Less than a minute later Dante De Luca scored the only Barton
goal on a spot kick from the penalty mark after an Abbey foul
inside the box.
The Crusaders held an 18-10 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in
corner kicks.
