The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team fell to Catawba College 5-2
with two matches stopped due to bad weather. The Abbey had a
doubles and singles victory while Catawba took two doubles wins and
three in singles to claim the team win.
Conner McMann and Alex Gradenwitz battled to a 9-7 loss against
Thomas Mitchell and Uri Yarkoni. Patrick Noelke and Tim Tanko lost
to Alex Macdonald and Jess Goodall in a tough 8-1 match. Idris Moya
and Gabriel Trombini start the Crusaders off with an 8-5 victory
over Alex Kalmbach and Kevin Budrawich to get the Crusaders their
first point.
After suffering a doubles loss McMann comes up with a
challenging win over Macdonald by winning 6-2 in the first then
falling 7-6 only to fight back in the third set to gain a victory
11-9. Gradenwitz suffered a close loss to Mitchell losing 6-4 but
came back to force a third set with a 6-3 win in the second, only
to fall 10-3. Trombini fell to Goodall 6-1, 6-4.
Noelke falls to Uri Yarkoni 6-2, 6-3 and the final two matches
of the day were called off after a storm came through but Tanko was
in the third set after a 6-3 win and a 6-2 loss against Kevin
Budrawich but was besting Budrawich 6-3 when the match was called.
Moya started his second set after a 6-4 victory over Kalmbach in
the first, but the second set was 1-1 when the match was
called.
The Crusaders head back to the courts on April 3 at 4:00pm
against USC Lancaster
