The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team fell to King 79-56 on
Wednesday night. The Crusaders led in the early going, but fell
behind as they shot only 36 (19-53) percent from the floor. King
shot 47 (28-60) percent from the floor, and 43 (13-30) percent from
behind the arc. The loss drops the Crusaders to 14-8 overall and
7-5 in Conference Carolinas. King improves to 20-4 overall and 12-0
in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders started the game with an 11-5 run to take the
early lead at the 15:03 mark. A 26-9 surge by King gave it a 31-20
advantage; their largest lead of the first half. At the half the
Abbey trailed 41-32.
Matthew Graves' jumper to start the second half cut the Crusader
deficit to 41-34. Seven would be the fewest amount the Abbey would
trail by in the second half as King outscored the Crusaders 19-9 to
take 60-43 lead at the 11:52 mark. A 7-4 spurt by the Crusaders cut
the deficit to 64-50 with 6:09 to play, but King finished the game
with a 15-6 surge to take the 79-56 victory.
Logan Lyle led all scorers with 25 points for King. Lio Gedeon
grabbed a game high 16 rebounds without attempting a field goal.
Eddie Piccinini contributed 15 points to the King cause.
Tyshawn Good led the Crusaders with 12 points. Kyle Phillips
recorded a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
