Women's Basketball Falls To Barton, 79-57

The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team suffered a 79-57 defeat at the hands of the Barton Bulldogs. The Abbey outshot Barton 45.2 percent (33-73) to 44.7 percent (21-47), but turnovers were the Crusaders downfall as they gave it away 24 times in the game. The loss drops the Abbey to 12-13 overall and 8-8 in Conference Carolinas, while Barton improves to 17-7 overall and 12-3 in Conference Carolinas.

Shante Neal made a jumper seven seconds into the game to give Barton a 2-0 lead. The Crusaders took their first lead at the 12:57 mark as a Melisa Foures layup made the score 13-12. A 5-2 spurt by the Abbey gave it an 18-14 advantage; it's largest of the game. Barton responded by outscoring the Crusaders 27-5 to take a 41-23 lead at the half.

Paula Regalado's layup ten seconds into the second half cut the Barton advantage to 41-25. The Bulldogs responded with an 8-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 49-25 with 17:40 to play. A 19-10 Abbey run cut the deficit to 59-44, the smallest of the second half, at the 10:42 mark. Barton outscored the Crusaders 20-13 to finish the game and take the 79-57 victory.

Kelsey Long led four Crusaders in double figures with 13 points and five rebounds. McKenzie Owen and Regalado each chipped in 11 points with McKenzie Owen grabbing seven boards and Regalado grabbing five. Foures scored 10 points to go with six rebounds.

Jannetta Robinson led all scorers with 24 points and five rebounds for Barton. Willie Nyeashea scored 19 points and dished out five assists. Faith Hunter chipped in 15 points for the Bulldogs.
